| Richard Allen Lykes |
James Leroy Kinley |
In separate investigations, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department fugitive investigators on Tuesday, March 31 arrested a 48-year-old Gaston man and 50-year-old Cayce man on family court bench warrants that were issued after the men did not resolve their child support cases. The two men have not made a combined total of $142,956 in court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Lexington County sheriff’s fugitive investigators and a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department deputy arrested Richard Allen Lykes, 48, at 10:05 p.m. on Tuesday in the front yard of Lykes’ home at 149 Sugar Hill Lane, Gaston. Lykes was being held on Wednesday, April 1 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a hearing in family court to resolve his three child support cases.
Lexington County Clerk of Court Beth Carrigg said a family court judge issued three bench warrants for Lykes’ arrest on March 17 after Lykes did not appear in court for hearings on his three child support cases. Lykes has not made a combined total of $64,630 in court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County.
Fugitive investigators booked James Leroy Kinley, 50, of 2811 Peach Street, Cayce, at the Lexington County Detention Center at 6:08 p.m. on Tuesday after they served Kinley with the family court bench warrant following Kinley’s release from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, Metts said. Kinley was arrested in Richland County on a charge of driving without a valid driver’s license under an assumed name of “Sonny Kelly.”
Correctional officers at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center conducted a check on “Sonny Kelly” on the National Crime Information Center computer database and determined that “Sonny Kelly” was actually James Leroy Kinley, Metts said. The officers further determined that Kinley was listed on the computer database as a person who was wanted on a Lexington County family court bench warrant.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department placed a detainer on Kinley on March 16, Metts said. Lexington County fugitive investigators took custody of Kinley on Tuesday, when Kinley was released from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Kinley was being held on Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a hearing in family court to resolve his child support case.
Fugitive investigators determined that Kinley has used several assumed names and several assumed Social Security numbers in order to try to elude law enforcement officers, Metts said.
A family court judge issued a bench warrant for Kinley’s arrest on September 22, 2006 after Kinley did not make court-ordered child support payments totaling $78,325 in Lexington County. Kinley last made a child support payment of $205 on April 3, 2002.
In 2008, fugitive investigators who are assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Warrant Division served 391 family court bench warrants on persons who did not make court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County, Metts said. So far this year, investigators have served more than 154 family court bench warrants on dead-beat parents who have not made court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County.
Non-custodial parents who owe court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County can make arrangements to resolve family court bench warrants that have been issued for their arrests by calling the Clerk of Court’s Office at (803) 785-1196, Carrigg said.
Non-custodial parents who are wanted on family court bench warrants also can surrender at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, Metts said. |
