Detectives Arrest Man for Attempting to Sexually Assault Two Women at Motel

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives arrested a 21-year-old Columbia man on charges that the man unlawfully entered two guest rooms on separate occasions on Thursday, June 26 at a motel on Berryhill Road near Irmo and physically assaulted two women who are employed at the motel with the intent to commit a sexual battery on each of the two women.

As a result of conducting a three-month investigation of three separate indecent exposure incidents in the Irmo community, Lexington County Sheriff A. Lewis McCarty said detectives arrested Xavier Kadeem Graham, 21, of 18 Berryhill Road, Apartment 23-A, Columbia, on Thursday on arrest warrants on one count of first-degree burglary, one count of second-degree burglary and two counts of assault with the intent to commit first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Graham was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center at 9:55 p.m. on Thursday. Graham was being held on Friday, June 27 at the Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.

An arrest warrant alleges that at about 11 a.m. on Thursday Graham unlawfully entered a guest room at a Red Roof Inn at 10 Berryhill Road and physically assaulted a 24-year-old woman, who works at the motel, McCarty said. Graham injured the woman’s back when Graham threw the woman onto the bed in the room with the intent of committing a sexual battery on the woman.

An arrest warrant also alleges that at about 11 a.m. on Thursday Graham unlawfully entered a second guest room at the motel and assaulted a 45-year-old woman, who works at the motel, McCarty said. Graham grabbed the woman’s private parts and tried to pull off her shirt.

An employee at the motel reported the assaults to the Sheriff’s Department, McCarty said. Witnesses provided deputies with a physical description of the man who assaulted the two women at the motel and told deputies that the man ran towards an apartment complex, where detectives later determined that Graham lives.

McCarty said detectives are continuing to investigate information concerning Graham. The sheriff asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Graham to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
