Officers Seize Methamphetamine Laboratory


Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) on Tuesday, June 3 seized a methamphetamine laboratory that was operated at a home on Westfork Road near Gilbert. Officers arrested two men and two women on charges that they operated the methamphetamine laboratory at the residence.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested James Matthew Bennett, 31, of 5023 Two Notch Road, Leesville; Raven Hayley Boatwright, 19, of 206 Longspur Lane, Lexington; Dana Eugene Farnsworth, II, 32, of 106 Isaiah Hallman Road, Gilbert; and Amelia Garrett Shirley, 18, of 279 Cornerstone Lane, Lexington. Bennett, Boatwright, Farnsworth and Shirley each were being held on Wednesday, June 4 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings.

Officers arrested Bennett, Boatwright and Shirley on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine, unlawfully altering pseudoephedrine and improperly disposing of waste from a methamphetamine laboratory, Metts said. Officers arrested Farnsworth on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine, unlawfully altering pseudoephedrine, improperly disposing of waste from a methamphetamine laboratory and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

At about 1:41 p.m. on Tuesday, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies went to a home at 247 Westfork Road in order to investigate information about possible illegal drug activity at the home, Metts said. Deputies requested assistance from NET officers to further investigate the matter.

NET officers executed a search warrant at the Westfork Road home and found a clear plastic container on a counter in the kitchen that contained a small amount of methamphetamine as well as hypodermic needles and pipes that are used to ingest drugs, Metts said. Officers also found components for a methamphetamine laboratory and one 9-mm Glock 19 handgun.

Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
