Community Day

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in partnership with the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission will conduct a Community Day event between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 at Seven Oaks Park at 200 Leisure Lane near Irmo.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts encourages citizens to attend the Community Day event, which will be provided free of charge. The event will include static law enforcement displays, including trucks that are used by the Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad, Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) and Crime Scene Investigation Unit. The Irmo Fire District also will conduct a static display with a fire truck.

In addition, crime prevention officers will be available to provide information to citizens and answer questions from citizens, Metts said. Cadets with the Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post also will prepare fingerprint identification cards for children who are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

US Foods, Southeast Food Distribution, Derst Baking Company, Caughman’s Meat Plant and Pepsi will provide food and beverages for citizens who attend the Community Day event, Metts said.

Irmo Resident Deputy Dan Rusinyak will coordinate the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the Community Day event, Metts said. Citizens who have questions about the event can contact Rusinyak on his cellular telephone at (803) 518-7795.

The Community Day event reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
