Food Drive for Children's Shelter

Lexington County Detention Center correctional officers will accept donations of non-perishable food items between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 23 in the parking lot of a Kroger grocery store, 7467 St. Andrews Road, Irmo, for a food drive that the officers are conducting for the Nancy K. Perry Children’s Shelter in Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said donations of non-perishable food items for the Children’s Shelter will be accepted through Sunday, April 6. All food items that are donated will be delivered to the Children’s Shelter on Tuesday, April 8. The Children’s Shelter must feed as many as 14 children daily. Any food items that cannot be accepted by the Children’s Shelter will be provided to families in Lexington County that are in need of assistance.

Lt. Jeremy Vetter is coordinating the food drive for the Children’s Shelter, Metts said. Vetter and his wife serve as foster parents for two children who formerly lived at the Children’s Shelter. Citizens who have questions about the food drive can contact Vetter on his cellular telephone at (803) 513-1525.

The food drive for the Nancy K. Perry Children’s Shelter reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
