Battle of the Badges

In three weeks, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in partnership with Lexington County public safety agencies and Lexington County School District One will conduct the fifth annual Battle of the Badges charity basketball game and dinner at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 at Gilbert High School, 840 Main Street, Gilbert. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Make A Wish Foundation.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts and Lexington County Public Safety Director David W. Kerr encourage citizens to attend Battle of the Badges. The event will feature a charity basketball game between a team of sheriff’s deputies and a team of personnel from Lexington County Public Safety, which includes the Fire Service, Emergency Medical Services and 911 Communications Center. The cost is $8 per person. The price of admission to the event includes a spaghetti dinner, theatrical performance by magician John Tudor and the basketball game between the teams from the Sheriff’s Department and county Public Safety.

Resident Deputy Joe Auckerman, who serves the Gilbert, Hollow Creek and Summit communities, and Fire Service Station #8 Apparatus Operator Tony Banco are coordinating their agencies participation in Battle of the Badges, Metts said. Citizens who would like additional information about the event can contact Auckerman at (803) 518-3073 or via email at sauckerman@lcsd.sc.gov or Banco at (803) 600-6705 or via email at tbanco@lex-co.com.

Citizens can buy tickets for Battle of the Badges at county Fire Station #8, 103 Main Street, Gilbert; the county Lexington County Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington; Price’s Country Store, 540 Peach Festival Road, Gilbert; Gilbert Middle School, 120 Rikard Circle, Gilbert; and Gilbert High School, 840 Main Street, Gilbert, Metts and Kerr said.

The Battle of the Badges charity basketball game and dinner reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
