Man Arrested for Unlawfully Presenting Himself as a Nurse

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives in cooperation with the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 28-year-old Lugoff man on charges that the man unlawfully presented himself and practiced as a nurse and licensed practical nurse while the man provided medical services at a medical facility on Medical Circle near West Columbia.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Kerston Kyle Turner, 28, of 113 Linde Lane, Lugoff, on a charge of unlicensed practice as a nurse and licensed practical nurse and asked Kershaw County deputies to arrest Turner at his Lugoff home. Kershaw County deputies arrested Turner on Friday, January 24. Lexington County deputies on Monday, January 27 transported Turner to the Lexington County Detention Center, where Turner was being held on Monday while awaiting a bond hearing.

An arrest warrant alleges that on January 14 Turner willfully and unlawfully presented himself as a nurse and licensed practical nurse to a 16-year-old boy and the boy’s mother while Turner provided medical services, which were not medically necessary, to the 16-year-old boy at MedCare Urgent Care Center, 110 Medical Circle, West Columbia, Metts said.

The arrest warrant further alleges that Turner, who had the word nurse tattooed on one of his forearms, performed unlawful services on the 16-year-old boy that were outside the scope of Turner’s certification as a certified nursing assistant and constituted a sexual assault on the 16-year-old boy, Metts said. The South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation certified Turner to work only as a certified nursing assistant.

Turner previously was arrested on January 17 on arrest warrants that detectives obtained for Turner on charges of engaging a child under the age of 18 in a sexual performance and first-degree assault and battery in connection with the unlawful services that Turner performed on the 16-year-old boy, Metts said. Turner was released from the Lexington County Detention Center on January 18 after Turner posted bail totaling $10,000.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Turner or information about situations in which Turner has interacted inappropriately with children to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
