Officers Arrest Woman for Manufacturing Methamphetamine

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) on Thursday, January 23 arrested a 30-year-old Gaston woman on charges that the woman operated a methamphetamine laboratory that officers found in a truck that was parked in the 100 block of West Ballpark Road in Gaston.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested Stefanie Renee Head, 30, of 950 Meadowfield Road, Gaston, on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine. Head was being held on Friday, January 24 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.

A Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy went to West Ballpark Road at about 1:49 p.m. on Thursday in order to investigate a report about a suspicious truck, Metts said. The deputy pulled up behind a green Mazda truck that was parked on the road and found Head sitting in the front passenger seat of the truck.

The deputy searched the truck and found items inside the vehicle that he recognized from training that he had received as an indication that a methamphetamine laboratory was being operated inside the vehicle, Metts said. The deputy requested assistance from NET officers to further investigate the incident.

NET officers determined that Head possessed a clear, plastic two-liter bottle that actively was being used as a reaction vessel to manufacture methamphetamine, Metts said. Officers arrested Head on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
