Detectives Arrest Man for Stealing Utility Trailer and Ice Cream Maker

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives on Wednesday, December 11 arrested a 44-year-old West Columbia man who was wanted on an arrest warrant that alleges that the man stole one utility trailer from outside a home on Scenic Drive near West Columbia on November 25 and stole one ice cream maker that was stored in a box at a home on Wire Road near Gilbert on December 10. The combined value of the utility trailer and ice cream maker was about $2,232.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives arrested James Randolph Metze, 44, of 1911 Augusta Road, Lot 18, West Columbia, on an arrest warrant on a charge of grand larceny. Metze was booked at 8:36 p.m. on Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center, where Metze was being held on Thursday, December 12 while awaiting a bond hearing.

The arrest warrant alleges that at about 1:20 p.m. on November 25 Metze used a silver-and-blue 1987 Dodge Ram pickup truck to steal the utility trailer from outside the Scenic Drive home, Metts said. Detectives later found the Nostalgia Elect ice cream maker that was reported stolen from the Wire Road home in the bed of the pickup truck, which Metze was driving.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Metze to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
