Sheriff's Department Donates $1,800 to Dickerson Center for Children

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will present a check in the amount of $1,800 at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 25 to the Dickerson Center for Children. The check presentation will occur in the Squad Room at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the check in the amount of $1,800 reflects proceeds from the fifth annual Sheriff’s Department Trail of Treats for Halloween, which the agency conducted on October 26 at Wildcat Hollow stadium on Ball Park Road near Lexington. The Trail of Treats was a family-oriented event that enabled children to celebrate Halloween in a safe and secure environment.

The Trail of Treats for Halloween also generated an additional $539 for the Dickerson Center for Children in proceeds from a bake sale and other donations, Metts said. Administrative Assistant Lori Drafts coordinated the Trail of Treats for Halloween for the Sheriff’s Department.

The Dickerson Center for Children is a non-profit child advocacy center that assists law enforcement officers by conducting forensic interviews and forensic medical examinations for children, age 18 and younger, who were physically abused or sexually abused, Metts said. The center also provides mental health and victims services to children who have been abused.

During the Trail of Treats for Halloween, children who were age 12 and younger collected candy at each motor vehicle or piece of equipment that was decorated with a Halloween theme along the Trail of Treats inside the stadium, Metts said. The event featured entries from the Sheriff’s Department, public safety agencies, businesses and community groups.

The Trail of Treats for Halloween and the donation to the Dickerson Center for Children reflect the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
