Detectives Seek Help in Identifying Girl in Connection with Dog Theft at Adoption Center

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives are seeking help from citizens in identifying a girl who was involved in the theft of a 4-year-old female tri-color, black-brown-and-white chihuahua named Pixie Trixie from an animal adoption center on Orchard Drive near West Columbia on Wednesday, October 10. The girl appeared to be wearing a high school Junior ROTC uniform, and the girl was accompanied by a man who might be the girl’s father.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives on Wednesday released two surveillance camera photographs of the girl who was in involved in the theft of the dog from Pets, Inc. at 300 Orchard Drive. The sheriff asked anyone with information about the dog, the girl or the man who accompanied the girl to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

An employee at Pets, Inc. reported the theft of the dog to the Sheriff’s Department at about 5:28 p.m. on Wednesday, Metts said. The employee told deputies that the girl and the man who might be the girl’s father entered the animal adoption center at about 4 p.m. and walked around the center in order to look at various dogs that are housed at the center.

The animal adoption center employee told deputies that the girl talked on her cellular telephone the entire time that she was at the center and did not interact with employees, Metts said. The man who accompanied the girl interacted with employees at the center.

The animal adoption center employee told deputies that the man, who was African-American, was about 6-foot and weighed about 250 pounds, Metts said. The employee told deputies that the man was wearing a shirt with horizontal stripes, blue jeans and a blue-and-black baseball cap.

The animal adoption center employee told deputies that the man asked to take Pixie Trixie for a short walk on a leash so that he could get to know the dog, Metts said. The employee told deputies that the man walked Pixie Trixie outside the building and then drove off with the dog and the girl in his motor vehicle. The man was driving a newer model black sport-utility vehicle that appeared to be similar to a Chevrolet Tahoe or Chrysler Jeep.
