Deputies Arrest Two 17-Year-Old Boys for Breaking Into Garage

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Wednesday, October 9 arrested a 17-year-old Leesville boy and 17-year-old Monetta boy on charges that the two boys broke into an enclosed garage outside a home on Green Hills Drive near Gilbert on Wednesday and stole two tool boxes, one battery charger and one arc welder.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Dalton Wayne Heywood, 17, of 1241 Sandpit Road, Leesville, and Travis James Trapp, 17, of 382 Academy Street, Monetta, on arrest warrants on a charge of third-degree burglary. Heywood and Trapp were being held on Thursday, October 10 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings.

Arrest warrants allege that at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday Heywood and Trapp unlawfully entered an enclosed garage outside the home on Green Hills Drive with the intent to commit a criminal act, Metts said. Heywood and Trapp stole two tool boxes, one battery charger and one arc welder. Deputies found one of the tool boxes in the bed of a 2005 black Dodge Ram pickup truck that was parked outside the garage. The pickup truck is registered to a relative of Trapp.

At about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies investigated a call concerning a suspicious motor vehicle that was seen driving in the vicinity of the Green Hills Drive home, Metts said. Deputies found the 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck parked by the garage at the Green Hills Drive home, with the vehicle’s tailgate in the down position.

Deputies found one tool box in the bed of the 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck and saw that the window had been shattered on a door that is used to access the garage, Metts said. Deputies caught Heywood and Trapp walking out of the garage’s entry door, carrying the second tool box. Deputies arrested Heywood and Trapp for breaking into the garage.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Heywood or Trapp to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
