Officers Seize Methamphetamine Laboratory

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) on Friday, September 6 seized a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory that was being operated at a room at a motel on Harbor Drive near West Columbia. Officers arrested three men and two women on charges that the five persons operated the methamphetamine laboratory that officers found at the motel room.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said officers arrested William Jonathan Everett, 42, of 227 Heather Ridge Drive, Gaston; Franke Lane Medlin, 35, of 1484 F Avenue, West Columbia; Jessica Irene Norris, 28, of 227 Jefferson Place, Columbia; Rebecca Suzanne Parnell, 32, of 135 Ward Road, Lugoff; and Robert Carlton Snyder, 31, of 1479 Highway 1 North, Camden. Everett, Medlin, Norris, Parnell and Snyder each were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine, possessing pseudoephedrine that was unlawfully converted from a pill form to a powder form and possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute it. Everett, Medlin, Norris, Parnell and Snyder were being held on Friday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings.

At about 2:47 a.m. on Friday, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies went to the Executive Inn at 1107 Harbor Drive in order to investigate information that a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory was being operated in a room at the motel, Metts said. Deputies went to the motel room and detected a strong chemical odor in the room that they recognized from training that they had received as an indication that a methamphetamine laboratory was being operated in the room.

Deputies found plastic tubing, drain cleaner and a bottle inside two bags on the floor in the motel room, Metts said. Deputies also found one can of fuel that is used for camp stoves adjacent to the bags. In addition, deputies found one clear plastic bottle under a desk that was being used as a reaction vessel to manufacture methamphetamine.

Deputies placed Everett, Medlin, Norris, Parnell and Snyder in investigative detention after finding the three men and two women in the motel room, where deputies found the clandestine methamphetamine laboratory actively was being operated, Metts said. Deputies requested assistance from NET officers to further investigate the methamphetamine laboratory.

NET officers determined that Everett, Medlin, Norris, Parnell and Snyder were manufacturing methamphetamine in the motel room and arrested the three men and two women, Metts said. NET officers dismantled and safely disposed of the reaction vessel that the three men and two women were using to manufacture methamphetamine.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
