Timberlake Youth Triathlon


In one week, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies in partnership with Timberlake Plantation Owners Association and Timberlake Country Club will conduct the third annual Timberlake Youth Triathlon at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 24 at Timberlake Country Club, 222 Timberlake Drive, Chapin.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts encourages parents to register their children to participate in the Timberlake Youth Triathlon. Parents must register their children online by accessing www.active.com, accessing the link for triathlons and then accessing the link for the Timberlake Youth Triathlon under upcoming activities. Registration for the event will end at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21. Parents cannot register children on the day of the youth triathlon.

The cost for the Timberlake Youth Triathlon is $30 per participant, Metts said. Registration will be limited to 100 children.

All proceeds from the Timberlake Youth Triathlon will benefit WE CARE Center, which provides food and other assistance for persons who are in need of assistance in the Chapin, Little Mountain, Peak, Pomeria and Prosperity communities.

Chapin Resident Deputy Kevin Smith will coordinate the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the Timberlake Youth Triathlon, Metts said. Citizens who have questions concerning the event can contact Smith on his cellular telephone at (803) 518-7906 or via email at ksmith@lcsd.sc.gov.

During the triathlon, children ages 5 and younger will swim for 10 meters, ride a bicycle for one-quarter of a mile and run for 100 yards, Metts said. Children ages 6 and 7 will swim for 25 meters, ride a bicycle for one mile and run for three-quarters of one mile. Children ages 8 and 9 will swim for 50 meters, ride a bicycle for three miles and run for three-quarters of one mile.

During the triathlon, children ages 10 and 11 will swim for 100 meters, ride a bicycle for three miles and run for three-quarters of one mile, Metts said. Children who are age 12 will swim for 150 meters, ride a bicycle for three miles and run for three-quarters of one mile.

The Timberlake Youth Triathlon is sponsored by Timberlake Plantation Owners Association, Timberlake Country Club, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Gallup & Gallup, Green Earth Lawn Service, Harrell & Associates, P.A., Clark’s Termite and Pest Control, Dr. Pepper/Snapple, Palmetto Health, Palmetto Graphix, REMAX Real Estate Chapin, Chapin Eye Care Center, O’Leary Orthodontics, Midlands Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Capt. Lee Marshall, The Lake Murray Specialists (Kit and Johnny Oswald), Chapin Dental Associates, RoseMarie and Gary Schmedding, Aun and McKay, State Sen. Ronnie Cromer and Bi-Lo in Chapin, Metts said.

The Timberlake Youth Triathlon reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
