Man Arrested for Firing Shots Into Home Occupied by Four Persons

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies and fugitive investigators arrested a 31-year-old Gaston man on charges that he fired multiple shots from a handgun into a home on Meadowfield Road near Gaston on June 28. Two adults and two boys, ages 6 and 7, were home at the time of the incident, but no one was injured by the gunfire.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies and fugitive investigators arrested Michael Orlando “Duck” Brown, 31, of 205 Oak Top Court, Gaston, at about 8 p.m. on Friday, August 9. Deputies arrested Brown on arrest warrants that detectives had obtained for Brown on four counts of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm into a dwelling. Brown was being held without bond on Monday, August 12 at the Lexington County Detention Center.

Arrest warrants allege that at about 4:15 a.m. on June 28 Brown fired multiple shots from a 9-mm handgun into a home at 739 Meadowfield Road, Metts said. The motive for the incident remains under investigation.

Detectives recovered eight shell casings from a 9-mm handgun as well as a cellular telephone that belonged to Brown in the front yard of the Meadowfield Road home, Metts said. After they executed a search warrant on a motor vehicle that Brown owns, detectives recovered six additional shell casings that ballistics tests performed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division show were fired from the same 9-mm handgun that was used to fire bullets into the home on Meadowfield Road.

At the time of the shooting incident, the 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old boy were asleep in bedrooms at the Meadowfield Road home with their mother and their mother's brother, Metts said. Deputies found multiple bullets penetrated the master bedroom at the home as well as the front door, front porch and living room.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Brown to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
