Sex Offender Arrested for Failing to Register as Convicted Sex Offender

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Monday, July 15 arrested a 52-year-old West Columbia man who was wanted on an arrest warrant that was issued after the man failed to register with the Sheriff’s Department as a convicted sex offender. The man previously was convicted in federal court of possessing child pornography.

At the time of the arrest, Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Thomas Patrick Sullivan, 52, of 124 Phillip Drive, West Columbia, was naked and performing a sexual act as he watched adult pornography on a computer in a shed outside the Phillip Drive residence. Sullivan was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center at 6:44 p.m. on Monday. Sullivan was released from the Detention Center on Tuesday, July 16 after posting a $1,092.50 bond.

Under South Carolina law, Sullivan is required to register with the Sheriff’s Department as a convicted sex offender because Sullivan was convicted in federal court in South Carolina on August 17, 2007 of possessing child pornography, Metts said. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sullivan after Sullivan failed to register with the Sheriff’s Department as a convicted sex offender.

Deputies went to an air-conditioned shed outside the Phillip Drive home and found that Sullivan was naked and was performing a sexual act while he watched adult pornography on a large computer monitor, Metts said. Deputies then arrested Sullivan.
