Deputies Arrest Man for Breaking into Two Motor Vehicles

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested an 18-year-old man on Tuesday, July 2 on charges that the man broke into one motor vehicle that was parked at a home on Willow Creek Lane near Irmo and broke into a second motor vehicle that was parked at a home on Nursery Ridge Lane near Irmo. A citizen saw the man breaking into the motor vehicle on Willow Creek Lane and reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Department.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Ryan Christopher Johnson, 18, of 112 Char Oak Drive, Columbia, on two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle. Johnson was being held on Wednesday, July 3 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.

At about 10 a.m. on Tuesday, deputies responded to a call from a citizen who reported that a man, who later was identified as Johnson, illegally entered a pink Honda CRV sport-utility vehicle that was parked at a home on Willow Creek Lane, Metts said. The citizen provided deputies with a physical description of the man, who ran away after the citizen confronted him.

A deputy with the Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit and the deputy’s K-9 police dog partner tracked Johnson to his parents’ home at 112 Char Oak Drive, Metts said. Deputies found Johnson inside the home and later arrested Johnson on charges that he broke into the two motor vehicles.

Deputies determined that Johnson also illegally entered a white 2004 Honda Civic that was parked at a home on Nursery Ridge Lane and stole one wallet, Metts said. Deputies later recovered the wallet outside a church on Nursery Road near Irmo.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Johnson to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
