Officers Seize Methamphetamine Laboratory

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) on Monday, July 1 seized a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory that was being operated at a home on Village Court near Gaston. Officers arrested a 34-year-old Gaston man on charges that the man operated the methamphetamine laboratory at the residence while a 13-year-old boy was present at the home.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested Robert Fleet Pendleton, 34, of 1812 Village Court, Gaston, on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and unlawful conduct towards a child by a legal custodian. Pendleton was being held on Tuesday, July 2 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies received information on Monday that a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory was being operated at Pendleton’s home, Metts said. Deputies went to Pendleton’s residence at about 12:25 p.m. on Monday in order to investigate whether Pendleton was operating a methamphetamine laboratory at his home.

Deputies found two glass mason jars in a closet in a bedroom at the end of the home, Metts said. One of the jars contained a white liquid. Deputies also found a plastic funnel adjacent to the two glass jars. Deputies recognized from training that they had received that the items in the closet were part of a methamphetamine laboratory that was being operated at the home.

Deputies requested assistance from NET officers in order to further investigate the clandestine methamphetamine laboratory that deputies found at Pendleton’s home, Metts said.

NET officers determined that Pendleton was operating a methamphetamine laboratory at his residence, Metts said. NET officers dismantled the methamphetamine laboratory and safely disposed of the laboratory’s components.

The 13-year-old boy, whom deputies found watching television in a bedroom at the front of Pendleton’s home, was placed in the custody of a relative, Metts said.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
