UPS Foundation Donates $5,000 to Sheriff's Foundation

The UPS Foundation on Friday, June 21 donated $5,000 to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation. Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said representatives from The UPS Foundation donated money to the Sheriff’s Foundation as a part of its mission to promote community safety.

The Sheriff’s Foundation is a 501(c3) nonprofit organization that provides law enforcement equipment and training to Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies at no cost to taxpayers, Metts said. The Sheriff’s Foundation, which was established in 1999, has donated police vehicles, firearms, radios, Tasers, Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) equipment, K-9 police dogs and training to deputies.

The UPS Foundation was established in 1951. The mission of The UPS Foundation is to identify specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: nonprofit effectiveness, encouraging diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability.

“I want to thank The UPS Foundation for its generous support of the Sheriff’s Foundation,” Metts said. “Our goal is to develop partnerships between law enforcement and businesses in our community. UPS has supported the Sheriff’s Department at many community events, and I want to commend UPS for its commitment to enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County.”
