Teen-Ager Arrested for Breaking Into Business

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a 16-year-old Lexington boy on Thursday, June 6 on charges that the boy broke into a business on Sunset Boulevard near Lexington Thursday morning and stole one hookah, one pipe, two lighters and one cigarette case.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested James Ellebre King, III, 16, of 297 Popes Lane, Lexington. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for King on charges of second-degree burglary and possessing burglary tools, charging King as an adult. King was being held on Thursday on bail totaling $5,000 at a pre-trial detention facility in Columbia that is operated by the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

Arrest warrants allege that at about 3:30 a.m. on Thursday King broke into Alibaba’s Pipe Emporium at 4884 Sunset Boulevard near Lexington by using a pick axe to smash a glass window that was adjacent to the front door, Metts said. King stole one silver-and-white hookah worth $150, one purple lighter worth $59.99, one gold lighter worth $59.99, one Kazoo pipe worth $3.99 and one cigarette case worth $5. Deputies later recovered some of the stolen items on King’s person and additional stolen items in woods at the rear of the pipe business.

Deputies went to the business in order to investigate the activation of the burglar alarm at the business, Metts said. Deputies saw King outside the business. King ran away from the deputies towards an adjacent business. A K-9 Unit deputy and the officer’s K-9 police dog partner tracked King to the adjacent business and apprehended King outside the business.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving King to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
