Motorcycle Ride to Benefit Honor Flight

In two weeks, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will conduct its fifth annual motorcycle ride to benefit Honor Flight South Carolina. Registration for the ride will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15 at S&S Road Consultants, Inc., 930 Chapin Road, Chapin. Motorcyclists will begin their ride at 12 p.m. and end their ride by 4 p.m.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts encourages citizens to participate in the motorcycle benefit ride. The fee for the benefit ride is $25 for each motorcyclist and $15 for each passenger. All proceeds will benefit Honor Flight South Carolina.

Sgt. David Amick, who supervises the Chapin Patrol District, will coordinate the motorcycle benefit ride, Metts said. Citizens who have questions concerning the motorcycle benefit ride can contact Amick on his cell phone at (803) 223-3778 or via email at damick@lcsd.sc.gov.

The motorcycle benefit ride will include live music performed by Shodown as well as a live auction and silent auction, Metts said. Participants will be served a free barbecue dinner. Motorcyclists will ride in areas near Lake Murray, with stops at four businesses.

Honor Flight South Carolina provides airline and ground transportation for World War II and Korean War military veterans to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C., Metts said. Amick previously served in the U.S. Navy.

“As a military veteran, David recognizes the importance of honoring persons who have defended America’s freedoms in military combat,” Metts said.

“Honor Flight South Carolina enables military veterans who are living on fixed incomes to visit memorials that our nation constructed in order to recognize the sacrifices that were made by men and women who served in our nation’s armed forces,” Metts said.
