Officers Seize Reaction Vessel used to Manufacture Methamphetamine

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) on Saturday, May 25 seized one reaction vessel that was used to manufacture methamphetamine and arrested a 23-year-old Lexington man for manufacturing methamphetamine and a 22-year-old Lexington woman for possessing methamphetamine. The reaction vessel was stored in a backpack that Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies recovered outside a home on South Lake Drive near Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested Robert Michael Yates, 23, of 1306 South Lake Drive, Lexington, on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking in methamphetamine and unlawfully disposing of waste from a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory. Yates was being held on Tuesday, May 28 at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $7,500.

NET officers arrested Amber Marie Hubbard, 22, of 1306 South Lake Drive, Lexington, on charges of trafficking in methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine, bringing contraband into a correctional facility, unlawfully disposing of waste from a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory, unlawfully possessing ephedrine and possessing a controlled substance. Hubbard was being held on Tuesday at the county Detention Center on bail totaling $17,500. Hubbard is a friend of Yates and rents a room from Yates’ parents at their South Lake Drive home.

Deputies went to the home of Yates’ parents at about 10 a.m. on Saturday in response to a call concerning a backpack that Yates’ father had found near a fire pit at the rear of his property, Metts said.

Deputies found the backpack, which contained one reaction vessel that contained a dry white substance, Metts said. Deputies requested assistance from NET officers in further investigating the incident.

NET officers located Yates and Hubbard inside the home of Yates’ parents, Metts said. Officers later arrested Yates and Hubbard.

While conducting a search of Hubbard’s person at the county Detention Center, a female correctional officer found two plastic bags with Batman logos that Hubbard had concealed in her bra, Metts said. The two bags contained a substance that Hubbard said was methamphetamine.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
