Beverages and Snacks Donated to USO


The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Lexington County School District Two and School District Five of Richland and Lexington Counties will donate more than 450 cases of water, sport drinks and soda and more than 2,500 single-serving snack foods to the USO at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. The items were donated during the Support Our Troops drive in order to provide food and beverages that the USO will distribute to members of the United States armed forces at Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts, Lexington County School District Two Superintendent Dr. Venus J. Holland and School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties Superintendent Dr. Stephen W. Hefner thanked employees of the Sheriff’s Department and school districts as well as citizens for their strong support of the Support Our Troops drive. The South Carolina Department of Corrections Youthful Offender Parole and Re-Entry Services, Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission and Quality Tool & Equipment also participated in the Support Our Troops drive.

In School District Five, items were donated by faculty, students and staff at the school district’s headquarters, The Center for Advanced Technical Studies, Chapin Elementary School, Chapin Middle School (Bow Tie Club), Chapin High School, Irmo High School (Junior ROTC students), Irmo Middle School, Irmo Elementary School, Cross Roads Middle School, Seven Oaks Elementary School, Oak Pointe Elementary School, Dutch Fork Middle School, Ballentine Elementary School, Lake Murray Elementary School, Harbison West Elementary School, Nursery Road Elementary School and H.E. Corley Elementary School, Hefner said.

“I am very proud of our students, parents and staff for their support of this important campaign,” Hefner said. “This is a great partnership between the USO, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and our schools.”

In School District Two, items were donated by faculty, students and staff at Brookland-Cayce High School (Junior ROTC students), Pine Ridge Middle School, Northside Middle School, Fulmer Middle School and Pair Education Center, Holland said.

Detective Steve Baumgardner coordinated the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the Support Our Troops drive to provide beverages and single-serving snacks to members of the United States armed forces, Metts said. The participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the Support Our Troops drive reflects the agency’s mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County.
