Sheriff's Department Honored at Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event

Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands honored the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday, April 18 as the Most Supportive Strutters at the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, recognizing the Sheriff’s Department for having 87 deputies and employees participate in the event in order to show support for sexual assault and abuse victims.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Capt. Mark Jones, who participated in the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, accepted the Most Supportive Strutters award on behalf of the Sheriff’s Department. Jones is the commander of the South Region Patrol District, which is based in Pelion. The Sheriff’s Department also received the Most Supportive Strutters award in 2012.

Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands also honored Sheriff’s Department administrative assistants Crystal Morehouse and Donna Roof as the Most Enthusiastic Recruiters for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Metts said. In addition, the organization honored Sheriff’s Department Lt. Kevin Blackmon as the most enthusiastic participant. Blackmon supervises deputies who are assigned to the Warrant Division and Judicial Services Division.

More than 800 persons registered to participate in the 2013 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on Lincoln Street in front of the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia.
