Homicide Investigation

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old woman whose body was found at about 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10 on Lumberjack Drive near the intersection with Earline Drive in the West Columbia community.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives are pursuing leads concerning the identity of the person or persons who fatally shot the woman in her upper torso. The motive for the shooting and the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office ordered an autopsy to be performed on the body of the 43-year-old woman at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 in order to determine the cause and manner of the woman’s death. While the woman has been positively identified using fingerprint records, the Coroner’s Office will not release the woman’s name until her relatives have been notified about her death. The woman’s relatives have not yet been notified.

Two men who were working to repossess a motor vehicle in the area saw the woman lying severely injured on Lumberjack Drive and reported the incident to the Lexington County Communications Center, Metts said. Lexington County Emergency Medical Services personnel found that the woman was alive and transported the woman by ambulance to Lexington Medical Center, where the woman later was pronounced dead.

Metts asked anyone with information about the 43-year-old woman or the fatal shooting of the 43-year-old woman to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
