Death Under Investigation |
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and Lexington County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of a 20-year-old Gilbert man whose body was found at about 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 1 along Old Wire Road near West Columbia.
Lexington County James R. Metts said detectives think the death of James Wilbur Lybrand, III, 20, of 3384 Old Charleston Road, Gilbert, involved foul play. However, the cause and manner of Lybrand’s death remain under investigation. Lybrand’s death does not appear to have occurred at random.
A woman who lives in the 600 block of Old Wire Road near West Columbia called the Lexington County Communications Center at about 5:08 a.m. on Sunday and reported that a person was lying along the road, Metts said.
Lexington County Emergency Medical Services and Lexington County Fire Service personnel responded to the call, found Lybrand lying along the road and determined at 5:11 a.m. on Sunday that Lybrand was deceased, Metts said. Deputies arrived on scene after it was determined that Lybrand was deceased.
Metts asked anyone with information about Lybrand or Lybrand’s death to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
