The Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) was created in 2001 by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and the chiefs-of-police throughout Lexington County to better serve citizens through the joint enforcement of narcotics and vice laws within the County. The NET is comprised of agents from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, as well as, the Lexington, Irmo, and Batesburg-Leesville police departments, and the Cayce Department of Public Safety. The NET’s commander answers to a governing board consisting of the Sheriff and the chiefs-of-police of Lexington County.

The NET is primarily a covert narcotics/vice team. Its primary function is to reduce the sale and use of illicit drugs in Lexington County. The NET also investigates vice crimes including gambling and prostitution. Since most of the activities of this law enforcement team are “undercover” or covert, the NET’s work is not always immediately noticed by citizens. Most narcotics and vice investigations take many man-hours to complete, therefore, these investigations are often not a "quick fix" for a problem area. It may take several weeks or even months to develop enough evidence to arrest and successfully prosecute perpetrators to effectively shut a drug/vice organization down.
