Detectives Charge Man with Restaurant Robbery


Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives charged a 21-year-old Columbia man with robbing a restaurant on St. Andrews Road near Irmo on July 9 while the man was armed with a firearm. Officers with the Cayce Department of Public Safety arrested the man on July 13 in connection with another restaurant robbery that the man committed in the city of Cayce.

Lexington County Sheriff A. Lewis McCarty said detectives served Rashaud Jamel Lee, 21, of 2122 Apple Valley Road, Columbia, at the Lexington County Detention Center with arrest warrants on one count each of armed robbery, possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, unlawfully carrying a firearm and seven counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person. Lee was being held without bond on Friday, July 18 at the Detention Center.

Arrest warrants allege that on July 9 Lee committed a robbery while armed with a firearm at a Waffle House restaurant at 778 St. Andrews Road, McCarty said. Lee held seven persons at gunpoint inside the restaurant while Lee stole $300 in cash from the restaurant’s cash register.

Deputies went to the St. Andrews Road restaurant at about 2:40 a.m. on July 9 in order to respond to a call for service concerning the robbery at the business, McCarty said.

Sheriff’s detectives are working with Cayce Department of Public Safety and Richland County Sheriff’s Department detectives to determine whether Lee is involved in additional criminal activity in the Midlands, McCarty said. The sheriff asked anyone with information about Lee’s involvement in additional criminal activity to call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
