Catfish Tournament

In two weeks, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will host the fifth annual Sheriff James R. Metts Catfish Tournament for children ages 6 to 17 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 at Catfish Haven, 1950 Craigsen Lane, West Columbia. The Sheriff’s Department will conduct the tournament in partnership with Catfish Haven, Food Lion, Frito-Lay, PepsiCo, Suburban Baptist Church, The Trophy and Gift Shop, West Columbia Police Department and Zion Lutheran Church.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said the Catfish Tournament will provide children with an opportunity to fish for the first time and spend time with law enforcement officers. All children who participate will receive lunch free of charge. The children also will receive a certificate for participating in the event.

West Columbia Resident Deputy Adam Spires will coordinate the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the Catfish Tournament, Metts said. Parents who want additional information about the fishing tournament can contact Spires on his cell phone at (803) 609-7208.

The Catfish Tournament reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
