Man Arrested for Breaking Into Two Homes

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies in cooperation with the Chapin Police Department arrested a 31-year-old Chapin man on Saturday, May 10 on charges that the man broke into one home on Old Lexington Highway near Chapin and a second home on Primrose Lane near Chapin.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Scott Samuel Neal, 31, of 248 Elm Creek Court, Chapin, on arrest warrants on two counts of second-degree burglary, one count of possessing a controlled substance and one count of possessing an implement that can be used to commit a crime. Neal was being held on Tuesday, May 13 at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $55,000.

Arrest warrants allege that on Saturday Neal broke into a home on Old Lexington Highway with the intent to steal items from the residence, Metts said. Neal stole prescription medication from the home. At the time of his arrest, deputies found that Neal possessed one black-and-yellow Stanley flat-head screwdriver that was used to break into the home.

An arrest warrant further alleges that on Saturday Neal unlawfully entered a home on Primrose Lane with the intent to steal items from the residence, Metts said. Neal stole Alprazolam, a medication that physicians can prescribe to treat anxiety disorders, from the home. Deputies found that Neal possessed a medication bottle that contained 25 Alprazolam pills when deputies arrested Neal for breaking into the Old Lexington Highway home.

Deputies found pry marks that were made by a screwdriver on the back door of the Old Lexington Highway home, Metts said. Deputies also found that prescription medication had been stolen from a medication cabinet in the home’s kitchen.

Deputies asked a Chapin Police Department officer to go to Neal’s home on Saturday afternoon in order to try to locate Neal, Metts said. The Chapin police officer found Neal at Neal’s home and detained Neal.

Deputies went to Neal’s home and found that Neal possessed a camouflage book bag that contained prescription medication that had been reported stolen from the Old Lexington Highway home and Primrose Lane home as well as the Stanley flat-head screwdriver, Metts said. Deputies arrested Neal, who was booked at the county Detention Center at 6:33 p.m. on Saturday.

Metts asked anyone with information concerning additional criminal activity involving Neal to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
