Detectives Determine Robbery Led to Shooting Incident

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives determined that a shooting incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on April 8 when two men who were armed with firearms stole money from another man while all three men were outside a home on Bayfield Lane neat Chapin.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives served Jeffery Lewis Hentz, 22, and Demichael Edward Mayers, 20, both of 318 Nursery Road, Little Mountain, with arrest warrants on Friday, April 11 at the Lexington County Detention Center on charges of armed robbery and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Detectives arrested Hentz and Mayers on April 9 on a charge of attempted murder. Hentz and Mayers each were being held without bond on Monday, April 14 at the Detention Center.

Arrest warrants allege that on April 8 Hentz and Mayers became involved in a verbal dispute with Antonio Williams, 34, of Prosperity, outside a home at 125 Bayfield Lane, Metts said. Witnesses told detectives that Hentz and Mayers each were armed with firearms and used force to steal money from Williams. Mayers shot Williams in the face with a firearm.

Williams was transported by helicopter on April 8 to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, where Williams successfully underwent surgery, Metts said. Williams was listed in stable condition on Monday at the hospital.
