Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a 49-year-old Lexington man on Wednesday, April 2 on charges that the man fatally shot a 42-year-old Lexington man during a verbal dispute that occurred on Wednesday night near the 49-year-old man’s home on Cheryse Drive near Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Billy John Geisendorff, 49, of 114 Cheryse Drive, Lexington, on charges of murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Geisendorff was being held without bond on Thursday, April 3 at the Lexington County Detention Center.

An arrest warrant alleges that at about 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday Geisendorff acted with malice and aforethought when he shot and killed Bobby Lee Christofoli, 42, of 206 Longspur Lane, Lexington, Metts said. Geisendorff and Christofoli, who were acquaintances, engaged in a verbal dispute outside Geisendorff’s home and separated. Christofoli walked towards the home of a friend who lives next door to Geisendorff.

Geisendorff walked towards Christofoli, and the two men became engaged in another verbal dispute in the roadway on Cheryse Drive, Metts said. Geisendorff then shot Christofoli several times in Christofoli’s upper torso with a .22-caliber handgun, which detectives later recovered at Geisendorff’s home.

The nature and circumstances of the verbal disputes involving Geisendorff and Christofoli remain under investigation, Metts said. The motive for the fatal shooting also remains under investigation.

Deputies arrived on Cheryse Drive at about 9 p.m. in response to a call concerning a man being injured in the roadway on Cheryse Drive, Metts said. Deputies found Christofoli lying on his back, with blood visible on his face and his chest. Geisendorff exited the crawl space under his home and surrendered to deputies, who placed Geisendorff in investigative detention. Detectives later arrested Geisendorff.
