Spirit of Giving Challenge

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, March 18 will present an award in the large residential community category to the Quail Valley Civic Association for donating the largest amount of non-perishable food items and new toys during the sixth annual Spirit of Giving Challenge that the Sheriff’s Department conducted as part of the agency’s annual holiday food and toy drive in 2013. Quail Valley residents donated 2,391 pounds of food and 167 new toys in winning the award for the third consecutive year.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said he will present the award to the Quail Valley Civic Association at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18 during the association’s meeting at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Road, Columbia. The non-perishable food items and new toys that the association donated to the Sheriff’s Department were provided to persons in Lexington County who were in need of assistance.

In 2013, the Quail Valley Civic Association and three neighborhood watch groups that also participated in the Spirit of Giving Challenge donated a record total of 3,501 pounds of non-perishable food items and 254 new toys to the Sheriff’s Department, Metts said. Irmo Resident Deputy Dan Rusinyak coordinated the Spirit of Giving Challenge.

The Spirit of Giving Challenge reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
