Community Clean-Up Project


In one week, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies will join volunteers from The Nehemiah Project and its partners and neighborhood residents in conducting a community clean-up project between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 in the Bellemeade community off Charleston Highway near West Columbia.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said as many as 160 volunteers are expected to remove trash and debris from yards and roads in the Bellemeade community and enhance landscaping in the community. Volunteers will meet at 11 a.m. on March 8 at Greater St. Paul AME Church, 662 Old Wire Road, West Columbia, before they begin the clean-up project.

Partners in The Nehemiah Project include ConAgra Foods, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Crossroads Community Church, Fellowship Church, Grace Chapel Church, Greater St. Paul AME Church, Home Depot, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Lexington Medical Center, Lexington Presbyterian Church, Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, Next Step Ministries, The Happy Butcher, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Turner Memorial AME Church and Union United Methodist Church, Metts said.

The participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the community clean-up project reflects the agency’s mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
