Sheriff James R. Metts

Major John Allard, PIO Office, 785-2415, 24-Hour Press Box: 799-2001, Ext. 1100

Investigators Seize Six Illegal Video Gambling Devices

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department narcotics investigators in cooperation with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on Sunday, December 15 seized six illegal video gambling devices that were stored in sheds outside a home on Bradley Drive near West Columbia.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Marion Henry Maner, IV, 44, of 146 Bradley Drive, West Columbia, turned himself in at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, on Wednesday, December 18 on arrest warrants on two counts of unlawfully possessing a gambling device. Maner was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center at 4:55 a.m. on Wednesday. Maner was released from the county Detention Center on Wednesday after Maner posted bail totaling $2,000.

Arrest warrants allege that on Sunday Maner possessed six unmarked Pot-O-Gold-type video poker devices that were stored in sheds outside Maner’s Bradley Drive home, Metts said. On Monday, December 16, a Lexington County magistrate ruled that each of the six unmarked Pot-O-Gold-type video poker devices were illegal video gambling devices, which were subject to seizure by law enforcement officers. Under South Carolina law, a magistrate must determine whether each individual gambling device is illegal.

At about 9:10 a.m. on Sunday, deputies went to Maner’s home in order to investigate information that Maner possessed illegal video gambling devices, Metts said. Deputies found the six Pot-O-Gold-type video poker devices in sheds outside Maner’s home and requested assistance from narcotics investigators and a SLED agent to further investigate the matter.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal video gambling devices to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can report information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (
