Motorcycle Ride Results in Donation of More than $12,000 to Honor Flight

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies donated $12,700 to Honor Flight South Carolina. The donation reflected all proceeds from the agency’s fifth annual motorcycle ride to benefit Honor Flight South Carolina.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Sgt. David Amick, who supervises the Chapin Patrol District, coordinated the motorcycle ride on June 15. Motorcyclists began their ride at S&S Road Consultants, Inc., 930 Chapin Road, Chapin, and made stops at four businesses in areas near Lake Murray.

Honor Flight South Carolina provides airline and ground transportation for World War II and Korean War military veterans to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C., Metts said. Amick previously served in the U.S. Navy.

“As a military veteran, David recognizes the importance of honoring persons who have defended America’s freedoms in military combat,” Metts said. “Honor Flight South Carolina enables military veterans who are living on fixed incomes to visit memorials that our nation constructed in order to recognize the sacrifices that were made by men and women who served in our nation’s armed forces.”

Bill Dukes, who founded Honor Flight South Carolina, presented Amick with a Certificate of Appreciation from South Carolina Lt. Gov. Glenn F. McConnell in recognition of Amick’s efforts to support Honor Flight South Carolina, Metts said. Amick received the certificate during an Honor Flight of South Carolina Board of Directors meeting on Monday, August 12.
