Deputies Arrest Man for Breaking Into Two Motor Vehicles

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Tuesday, July 23 arrested a 42-year-old Elgin man on charges that the man broke into two motor vehicles that were parked outside homes on Country Oak Road near Lexington.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Dale Edward Felix, 42, of 1580 Brazell Road, Elgin, on two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle. Felix was being held on Wednesday, July 24 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.
Deputies responded to a call at about 10:02 p.m. on Tuesday concerning a suspicious person on Country Oak Road, Metts said. Homeowners told deputies that they went outside their home on Country Oak Road after hearing their dog bark and saw a man inside their green 1993 Chevrolet Camaro, with the passenger’s side door open. The man exited the car and ran away.
A witness told deputies that he saw a man at a red 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck that was parked outside a second home on Country Oak Road, Metts said. Deputies found that someone entered the pickup truck and stole a checkbook, credit cards and wi-fi unit.
Deputies began walking trails that lead from Country Oak Road to S.C. 6, Metts said. Deputies found a Stanley 600-amp, jump-start system for a motor vehicle that had been placed adjacent to a tree as well as three credit cards that had been reported stolen from the Dodge Ram pickup truck on Country Oak Road.
Deputies found shoeprints in sandy areas on the walking trails and followed the shoeprints to the 1600 block of South Lake Drive, where deputies found Felix on a sidewalk, Metts said.
Felix was wearing clothes that were consistent with the clothes that witnesses told deputies the suspect was wearing at the time of the motor vehicle break-ins on Country Oak Road, Metts said. Felix also was wearing Nike athletic shoes. The shoes’ bottoms resembled the shoeprints that deputies found in the sandy areas on the walking trails off Country Oak Road. Three witnesses also identified Felix as the man that they saw on Country Oak Road in or near the two motor vehicles that were entered illegally.”
Deputies arrested Felix on charges that Felix broke into the two motor vehicles on Country Oak Road, Metts said.
Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Felix to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
