Investigators Arrest Two Men and Two Women in Shooting Incident


Lexington County Sheriff’s Department investigators arrested two men and two women in connection with an incident on June 23 in which a 19-year-old Gaston man was shot three times with a firearm in his head and other portions of his upper torso in woods off Lord and Tucker Court in the Edmund community. The 19-year-old Gaston man was seriously wounded, but physicians expect the man to recover from his gunshot wounds.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Sheriff’s Department fugitive investigators and other members of a U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force arrested Courtney Lynn Posey, 20, of 6982 Edmund Highway, Pelion, and Bobby George Sightler, 19, of 317 Gaston Spring Court, Gaston, on Wednesday, July 3. Investigators arrested Posey on an arrest warrant on a charge of attempted murder. Investigators arrested Sightler on arrest warrants on charges of attempted murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

A Lexington County magistrate on Wednesday ruled that Posey and Sightler should be held without bond at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting trial, Metts said.

Detectives previously arrested Jody James Stukes, 32, of 4597 Fish Hatchery Road, Gaston, on June 25 on arrest warrants on charges of attempted murder and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, Metts said. A Lexington County magistrate ruled that Stukes should be held without bond at the county Detention Center while awaiting trial.

In addition, detectives arrested Xanthe Amanda Smith, 26, of 1245 Main Street, West Columbia, on June 23 on an arrest warrant on a charge of obstructing justice, Metts said. Smith was being held on Wednesday at the county Detention Center on bail totaling $27,130.

Arrest warrants allege that at about 12:09 p.m. on June 23 Stukes acted with malice aforethought when Stukes used a firearm to shoot Caleb York Rowell, 19, of 2309 Highway 6, Gaston, in Rowell’s head with the intent of killing Rowell, Metts said. Stukes left Rowell seriously wounded in the woods off Lord and Tucker Court.

Rowell was continuing to undergo medical treatment on Wednesday at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, Metts said. Physicians who are treating Rowell told detectives that they expect Rowell to recover from his gunshot wounds.

Arrest warrants further allege that Sightler also acted with malice aforethought when he used a firearm to shoot Rowell with the intent of killing Rowell, Metts said. Sightler also left Rowell seriously wounded in the woods off Lord and Tucker Court.

In addition, arrest warrants allege that Posey, who previously was romantically involved with Rowell, conspired with Sightler and Stukes to harm Rowell, Metts said. Posey was present when Sightler and Stukes shot Rowell.

Arrest warrants further allege that Smith obtained the firearm that Sightler and Stukes used to shoot Rowell, hid the weapon and refused to divulge the location of the firearm to law enforcement officers, Metts said.

Rowell was acquainted with Posey, Sightler, Smith and Stukes, Metts said. The motive for the shooting incident remains under investigation.
