Officers Arrest Three Persons on Drug Charges

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) in cooperation with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) executed a search warrant on Friday, June 14 at a home on Deer Crossing near Gaston. Officers arrested two men and one woman on charges that involve the sale of cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana. Officers also seized cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana with a combined street value of about $3,000 as well as two firearms that officers found at the residence.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested Brittney Nicole Jay, 26, Samuel Derrell Sims, 20, and Christopher Tywhun Wilson, 37. Jay, Sims and Wilson all live at 344 Deer Crossing, where NET officers and the SWAT Team executed the search warrant on Friday morning.

NET officers arrested Jay on charges of trafficking in crack cocaine, possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute it, possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it and possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Metts said. Officers arrested Sims on charges of trafficking in crack cocaine, possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute it, possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it, possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, distributing cocaine and distributing crack cocaine. Officers arrested Wilson on charges of trafficking in crack cocaine, possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute it, possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it, possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and two counts of distributing cocaine.

Jay, Sims and Wilson each were being held on Friday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings, Metts said. NET officers obtained the search warrant for the Deer Crossing home as a result of an undercover investigation that officers began conducting about two months ago.

After executing the search warrant at the Deer Crossing home, NET officers seized about two ounces of marijuana, about 14 grams of crack cocaine and about 10 grams of cocaine that had a combined street value of about $3,000, Metts said. Officers also seized one High Point 9-mm handgun and one .22-caliber Mossberg rifle.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).

NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
