Deputies Investigating Suspicious Person Report

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Thursday, March 21 investigated a call for service about a suspicious person at a home on Midway Street, near South Congaree.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call for service at approximately 3 p.m. from a 9-year-old girl who lived at the Midway Street home.

According to investigators, the 9-year-old girl indicated that a man approximately 18-25 years of age, with brown hair, a mustache, and goatee was parked in her driveway as she walked home from her school bus stop. The man got out of the car and began walking towards her. The girl became frightened and ran away from him through some nearby woods to a neighbor’s home who then called 9-1-1.

Deputies responded to the call and canvassed the nearby area, but were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description given by the girl. According to the report, the suspect was driving a newer model, 4-door burgundy sedan. In addition, the suspect was also wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes, according to the girl.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the incident. Sheriff Metts has asked any citizens who may have witnessed a suspicious person or vehicle in the area matching the descriptions given to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (803)785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
