Sheriff Promotes Four Officers


Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts promoted one Lexington County Detention Center correctional officer to serve as the supervisor for a shift of correctional officers who supervise inmates in housing units, two correctional officers to serve as the assistant supervisors for shifts of correctional officers who work in housing units and one correctional officer to serve as a field training officer for a shift of correctional officers who work in housing units.

Metts promoted Tony Ward, 30, of Pelion, to the rank of sergeant and assigned Ward to supervise a shift of correctional officers who work in housing units at the Detention Center. Ward previously served as the assistant supervisor for a shift of correctional officers who work in housing units at the detention facility. On October 8, 2007, Metts appointed Ward to serve as a correctional officer.

Metts promoted William Holley, 27, of Irmo, to the rank of master correctional officer and assigned Holley to serve as the assistant supervisor for a shift of correctional officers who work in housing units at the Detention Center. Holley previously served as one of five specially trained correctional officers who enforce federal immigration laws at the Detention Center under the supervision of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of the Section 287(g) Immigration Authority Delegation Program. On August 10, 2009, Metts appointed Holley to serve as a correctional officer.

Metts promoted Billy Hutson, 35, of Batesburg, to the rank of master correctional officer and assigned Hutson to serve as the assistant supervisor for a shift of correctional officers who work in housing units at the Detention Center.

Hutson previously served as a correctional officer on a shift of correctional officers who work in housing units at the Detention Center, Metts said. On September 21, 2009, Metts appointed Hutson to serve as a correctional officer.

Metts promoted Vickie Bookman, 49, of Columbia, to serve as a field training officer for a shift of correctional officers who work in housing units at the Detention Center. Bookman previously served as a correctional officer on a shift of correctional officers who work in housing units. On August 27, 2007, Metts appointed Bookman to serve as a correctional officer.
