Lexington County Sheriff James R. Sulton was arrested on an arrest warrant on a charge of second-offense manufacturing methamphetamine. Wangness was arrested on an arrest warrant on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine.
Sulton and Wangness were being held on Thursday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings, Metts said.
At 1:14 a.m. on Thursday, NET officers executed a search warrant at the Pinecrest Drive home where Sulton and Wangness live, Metts said. Officers found that Sulton and Wangness actively were operating a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory at the residence, using two mason jars and two reaction vessels to manufacture methamphetamine. Officers arrested Sulton and Wangness at the home.
Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
