Sheriff Promotes Five Officers

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts promoted one deputy with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to supervise the agency’s Special Operations Division, one deputy to serve as a school resource officer, one deputy to serve as the assistant supervisor of a road patrol shift, one deputy to serve as an investigator in the Major Crimes Unit and one correctional officer to serve as a field training officer at the Lexington County Detention Center.

Metts promoted Garry Rozier, 54, of Columbia, to the rank of lieutenant and assigned Rozier to supervise the Special Operations Division. Rozier previously held the rank of sergeant and supervised the Aviation Unit and Lake Murray Marine Patrol. On February 23, 2009, Metts appointed Rozier as a deputy.

As commander of the Special Operations Division, Rozier will supervise the Aviation Unit, Dive Team, Lake Murray Marine Patrol, K-9 Unit, Traffic Division and Joint Swift-Water and Flood Rescue and Recovery Team, Metts said.

Metts promoted James Kemfort, 39, of Lexington, to the rank of master deputy and assigned Kemfort to serve as the assistant supervisor of a road patrol shift in the West Region Patrol District, which is based near Gilbert. Kemfort previously served as a deputy on a road patrol shift in the West Region Patrol District. On November 6, 2006, Metts appointed Kemfort to serve as a deputy.

Metts promoted Jonaire McClary, 31, of Lexington, to serve as a school resource officer at Pelion Middle School. McClary previously served as a deputy in the Warrant Division. On May 5, 2008, Metts appointed McClary to serve as a deputy.

Metts promoted Renee Strickland, 35, of Lexington, to serve as an investigator in the Major Crimes Unit. Strickland previously served as an investigator in the Crime Scene Investigation Unit. On November 16, 2009, Metts appointed Strickland to serve as a deputy.

Metts promoted Travis Truesdale, 25, of Lexington, to serve as a field training officer at the county Detention Center. Truesdale previously served as a correctional officer at the Detention Center. On July 26, 2010, Metts appointed Truesdale to serve as a correctional officer.
