Three Men Charged in Shooting Incident |

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives have charged three men in connection with a drug-related shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday, November 4 at a home on Pine Grove Road in the Fairview community. A 24-year-old man, who lives at the home, was shot and seriously injured in the incident.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives arrested Alvin Agnew, Jr., 18, of 157 Alpine Road, Swansea; Phillip Harold Jackson, 22, of 256 Shadow Dale Drive, Gaston; and Clifton Lamar Sutton, 19, of 125 Bells Drive, Lot 6, Swansea, on charges of first-degree burglary and armed robbery. Agnew, Jackson and Sutton each were being held on Thursday, November 5 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings.
Metts said the shooting incident remains under investigation. Detectives might file additional charges against Agnew, Jackson and Sutton. Detectives also might arrest additional persons in connection with the shooting incident.
Under South Carolina law, a circuit judge would have to conduct bond hearings for Agnew, Jackson and Sutton in general sessions court because first-degree burglary carries a maximum punishment of life in prison, Metts said. The 11th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office has not yet scheduled bond hearings for Agnew, Jackson and Sutton.
Agnew, Jackson and Sutton are charged with being involved in an incident at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday in which Winslow J. Hendrix, 24, was shot and seriously injured at Hendrix’s home at 311 Pine Grove Road, Metts said. Detectives determined that the shooting was connected to illegal drug activity.
Hendrix was transported by ambulance on Wednesday to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, where Hendrix was receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound, Metts said. Hendrix was listed in critical condition at the hospital on Thursday.
Deputies arrived at Hendrix’s home at 4:47 p.m. on Wednesday in response to a call about a shooting incident at the home, Metts said. Deputies found Hendrix lying seriously injured on his back on the floor near the home’s front door.
While responding to the shooting incident, deputies Jay Bonnette and Johnnie Nesbitt saw a gold Mercury Sable sedan driving at a high rate of speed towards Pelion on U.S. 178, Metts said. Bonnette turned around his marked patrol car and tried to catch up to the Mercury Sable. Bonnette did not initiate a motor vehicle pursuit with the Mercury Sable.
Bonnette later drove up to a motor vehicle collision involving the Mercury Sable and a black Ford F-150 pickup truck at the intersection of Main Street and Railroad Avenue in Pelion, Metts said. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the motor vehicle collision.
Deputies took Jackson and Sutton into custody at the scene of the motor vehicle collision, Metts said. Jackson had been driving the Mercury Sable sedan.
Three additional men who were riding in the Mercury Sable sedan with Jackson and Sutton fled on foot into woods between Forts Pond Road and Pelion Road after the motor vehicle collision in Pelion, Metts said. Detectives are investigating the identities of the three men as well as the men’s involvement in the shooting incident at the home on Pine Grove Road.
