Halloween Trail of Treats |
For the first time, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will host a Halloween Trail of Treats for children of all ages between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 at a youth baseball park on Duffie Drive off Gibson Road in Lexington.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Sheriff’s Department employees will use a Halloween theme to decorate 25 patrol cars and other law enforcement equipment as part of a trunk or treat competition. A prize will be awarded to the winning entry in the competition.
Parents or legal guardians are asked to accompany children who attend the Halloween Trail of Treats event, Metts said. Hot dogs and beverages will be provided free of charge.
During the event, deputies will conduct law enforcement demonstrations at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., Metts said. The Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), K-9 Unit, Traffic Division and Bomb Squad will conduct static displays. The static displays will include the agency’s helicopter, a truck that is used to safely transport hazardous devices and a robot that the Bomb Squad can use when it responds to incidents involving hazardous devices.
For a small fee, children also will be able to play games, including bowling on a portable bowling lane, Metts said. Proceeds from the games will benefit South Carolina Special Olympics.
East Lexington Resident Deputy David Nieves will make arrangements for a group of underprivileged children to attend the Halloween Trail of Treats event, Metts said.
