Two Dead-Beat Parents Taken Into Custody |

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department fugitive investigators on Wednesday, September 2 served a family court bench warrant on a 36-year-old Gilbert woman and returned a 39-year-old Aiken man to Lexington County from Greenwood County, where the man had been detained on a Lexington County family court bench warrant. The 36-year-old woman and 39-year-old man have not paid a combined total of more than $45,000 in court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Heather Ann Christensen, 36, of 3925 Two Notch Road, Gilbert, turned herself in on a family court bench warrant at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington. Christensen was being held on Thursday, September 3 at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a hearing to resolve her Lexington County child support case.
Investigators transported Jamal Usef Hilton, 39, of 132 Willis Hill Road, Aiken, to the Lexington County Detention Center at 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday from the Greenwood County Detention Center, where Hilton was detained as a wanted person on the National Crime Information Center computer database based on the family court bench warrant, Metts said. Hilton was being held on Thursday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a hearing in family court to resolve his Lexington County child support case.
So far this year, deputies have arrested 78 habitual offenders who did not make a combined total of more than $2 million in court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County, Metts said.
Lexington County Clerk of Court Beth Carrigg said a family court judge issued a bench warrant for Christensen’s arrest on August 26 after Christensen did not comply with a court order concerning her Lexington County child support case. Christensen has not made court-ordered child support payments totaling $18,067 in Lexington County.
A family court judge issued a bench warrant for Hilton’s arrest on March 6 after Hilton did not appear in court for a hearing in his Lexington County child support case, Carrigg said. Hilton has not made court-ordered child support payments totaling $26,982 in Lexington County.
So far this year, fugitive investigators have served more than 401 family court bench warrants on dead-beat parents who have not made court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County, Metts said. In 2008, investigators served 668 family court bench warrants on persons who did not make court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County.
Non-custodial parents who owe court-ordered child support payments in Lexington County can make arrangements to resolve family court bench warrants that have been issued for their arrests by calling the Clerk of Court’s Office at (803) 785-1196, Carrigg said.
Non-custodial parents who are wanted on family court bench warrants also can surrender at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington, Metts said.
