More than 70 Units of Blood Donated to Red Cross

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department employees and citizens donated 76 units of blood on Tuesday, July 8 during a blood drive that the Sheriff’s Department conducted in cooperation with the South Carolina chapter of the American Red Cross at Sheriff’s Department headquarters on Gibson Road in Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff A. Lewis McCarty thanked the citizens and Sheriff’s Department employees who donated blood during the blood drive. The Sheriff’s Department regularly conducts blood drives in partnership with the state chapter of the American Red Cross.

Evidence Clerk Beth Holliman and Master Deputy Chris Lee coordinated the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the blood drive, McCarty said. The sheriff encourages citizens to continue to give blood to the American Red Cross.

“The American Red Cross is in need of your help,” McCarty said. “Patients are depending on you to roll up your sleeves and make an appointment to give blood.”

Since 2006, blood drives that the Sheriff’s Department has conducted have resulted in the donation of a total of 1,334 units of blood to the American Red Cross, McCarty said.
