Officers Seize Methamphetamine Laboratory

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) on Wednesday, June 11 seized a methamphetamine laboratory at a home on Fallaw Road near Gaston. Officers arrested a 28-year-old Columbia man on charges that the man operated the methamphetamine laboratory.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said NET officers arrested Jeffery Dale Summers, II, 28, of 2081 Watermark Place, Columbia, on charges of second-offense manufacturing methamphetamine and unlawfully disposing of waste from a methamphetamine laboratory. Summers was being held on Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.

At about 4:19 a.m. on Wednesday, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies went to a home at 604 Fallaw Road near Gaston in order to arrest Summers on outstanding arrest warrants on charges of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, stalking and pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, Metts said. Deputies received information that Summers was at the home.

Deputies found Summers lying on a couch in the living room at the Fallaw Road home, Metts said. Deputies also found a clear plastic bottle on the living room floor adjacent to the couch that they recognized from training that they had received as a reaction vessel that was used to manufacture methamphetamine. Deputies requested assistance from NET officers to further investigate the reaction vessel.

NET officers determined that the reaction vessel was used to manufacture methamphetamine in the living room of the Fallaw Road home, Metts said. Officers dismantled and safely disposed of the reaction vessel.

Officers also found items in the Fallaw Road home that are used as components for a methamphetamine laboratory, Metts said. Officers arrested Summers on the outstanding arrest warrants as well as charges that Summers operated the methamphetamine laboratory that officers found at the Fallaw Road home.

Metts asked anyone with information about illegal drug activity in Lexington County to call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department and Lexington Police Department. Metts and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in the county.
