Deputies Arrest Man for Vandalizing Mailboxes

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Wednesday, May 28 arrested a 19-year-old Leesville man on charges that the man vandalized mailboxes outside seven homes on Richmond Farm Circle near Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said deputies arrested Theodore Wayne Masters, 19, of 2342 Caney Branch Road, Leesville, on a charge of malicious injury to a fixture. Masters was released from the Lexington County Detention Center on Wednesday after Masters posted a $1,230 bond.

At about 1:23 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies responded to a call concerning a motor vehicle that was driven into yards of homes on Richmond Farm Circle in order to hit mailboxes, Metts said. Deputies received information that the vehicle was a white sport utility vehicle.

A deputy who was conducting a directed patrol in the neighborhood in his marked patrol car saw a white sport utility vehicle enter the neighborhood and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Richmond Farm Circle, Metts said. Masters was driving the vehicle.

Deputies determined that Masters drove the sport utility vehicle into yards of homes on Richmond Farm Circle, while Jason Waters leaned out of the vehicle and used his hands and legs to damage mailboxes as Masters drove the vehicle by the mailboxes, Metts said. Deputies issued a citation to Waters, 21, of 147 Shady Grove Road, Gilbert, on a charge of malicious injury to a fixture and released Waters.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Masters or Waters to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff’s Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
