Two Teen-Agers Arrested in Carjacking

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department detectives in cooperation with the Chester County Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested a 17-year-old Charlotte, N.C. man and an 18-year-old Charlotte, N.C. man on charges that the two men stole a 2005 Toyota Corolla sedan at gunpoint while a 22-year-old Lexington man who owns the car was pumping gasoline into his car at a pump at a convenience store on Longs Pond Road near Lexington on April 2.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives arrested Jadorie Na’Shon Kirkland, 18, of 2820 Erimes Street, Charlotte, N.C., and Brandon Petersen, 17, of 2641 North Pine Street, Charlotte, N.C., on arrest warrants on charges of armed robbery, carjacking and possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Kirkland was being held on Wednesday, April 9 at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $385,000. Petersen was being held on Wednesday at the county Detention Center on bail totaling $325,000.

Arrest warrants allege that at about 3:18 p.m. on April 2 Kirkland and Petersen robbed the 22-year-old Lexington man while armed with a handgun, Metts said. The 22-year-old man was pumping gasoline into his Toyota Corolla at a gasoline pump at the Longs Pond Road convenience store when Petersen approached the man and demanded the keys to his car, threatening to shoot and kill the man with the handgun that Petersen possessed.

Arrest warrants further allege that Kirkland drove off in the Toyota Corolla, with Petersen riding as a passenger, Metts said. About one hour later, Chester County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the Toyota Corolla parked at a convenience store on Lancaster Highway near the interchange with Interstate 77 in Chester County and detained Kirkland and Petersen.

In addition, arrest warrants allege that the clothes that Kirkland and Petersen were wearing when they were detained matched the clothes that the 22-year-old man told detectives the two men who robbed him were wearing at the time of the carjacking and robbery, Metts said.

Detectives transported Kirkland and Peterson from the Chester County Detention Center to the Lexington County Detention Center, where Kirkland and Petersen were booked on Monday, April 7, Metts said. The motive for the carjacking and robbery remains under investigation.

Metts asked anyone with information about additional criminal activity involving Kirkland or Petersen to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
